A Little Scare

This is just an insight to all those parents who have younger children and are still learning how to child proof their house.

I woke up this morning to Austin in Dalyce's crib (which he goes there every morning) jumping on her bed! He had their toothpaste in hand in his mouth. I quickly took it out of his mouth and realized it was now empty. Obviously I know he ate the whole tube. I asked him if he gave any to Dalyce and he said that he did. So I came downstairs and was trying to decide what to do. I decided that just in case I should phone the health link and see what they say. They asked me a few questions and then transferred me to the poison centre. The guy asked me to double check to make sure there is no flouride in the toothpaste. In baby toothpaste there is no flouride because they can swallow it. The guy said there is nothing to worry about because there is no flouride. They might have a little bit of an upset stomach but other than that they will be fine.

So just to let all of you parents with younger children know that you really need to put everything that is unsafe for your child to touch or eat out of their reach and if you think that they might be able to reach it if they tried really hard, lock it up. Austin is able to open child proof bottles that you have to push down and turn. We had a bunch of medicine in the same cupboard of his toothpaste that he could've gotten into without us knowing, all of that stuff is now in a locked closet. Please learn from my little harmless mistake and not let a dangerous mistake happen to yourself!

Back from Manitoba

Dalyce and her first steps!

Well Dalyce is now 1 and a couple of weeks old. She took her first couple of steps yesterday! I tricked her into doing it I think but now she will do it if you get her to. She only takes little itty bitty ones and not very many at a time because she is very cautious. She will soon be running around like Austin and be very hard to keep up with.

Her talking is coming around slowly as well. If she knows you and sees you she loves to say hi and wave with both hands! She can give hi fives and sometimes kisses (but not often). She loves to give me hugs but no one else! She is sure coming into her own as she likes to play little princess and throw fits when she doesn't get what she wants. She sure has an attitude. But I love every bit of it!

Austin is sure growing up fast as well. He has a wide vocabulary, he likes to talk back sometimes which gets him into trouble. His new favorite words are "why not" especially when they don't make any sense at all, but its cute all the same. Sometimes I think I have a 4 year old all of sudden and not a 2 year old any more. You really know you think hes older when your asking him for fashion advice when you can't decide, the funny part about it is when he tells you something looks funny and that you should wear something else! He loves to go and get me clothes in the morning and he tells me he loves when I wear blue! Seriously is he really only 2? Teehee I just rhymed!!

Anyways, I'm going to get back to this gorgeous day!!

It has been a while since my last post. Let me fill you in on what the family has been up to.

We went camping from July 1st to the 10th. It was a little disappointing. The weather was terrible. Grant went fishing at Beaver Lake but not for very long. His weighters filled up with water as soon as he got into his boat thing and his fly rod broke. He waited for Michael to finish fishing for 2 hours and finally came back to camp. The other time we went fishing we went to my famous Grandpas fishing hole. We call it Windys hole. It used to be a great fishing hole and so much fun to fish at. You had to walk into the river until you were knee deep just to be able to cast to the other side of the river. I was the only one who caught a fish, I let him go though, no one wanted to eat it!

We went golfing one of the days. It was super hot and I got burnt (what a surprise). I did fairly well in the beginning, terrible in the middle and by the end of it I had given up. By guessing what I would've gotten on a couple of holes that I never actually played I got a 63 which apparently is really good for my second time golfing. I was playing with Grant and Kevin who got 47 and 48. Mom, Dad and michael golfed behind us. I can't remember their scores. I lost a bunch of balls, but I think I found more than I lost!!

The last 2 days that we were there the weather was beautiful for the most part and we played in the creek. Austin had so much fun throwing rocks and sticks. Logan and I crossed the river which made me very nervous. But once across it wasnt actually scary at all.

Our trailer held up. We figured out the fridge works the whole time we just needed to bleed the propane lines. The stove worked great, but good thing we didn't need to use the furnace. It was capped off because of a leak. We are still planning on getting it fixed in the future. After all the rain, the socks stuffed in the vent pipe hole never leaked through! I was very surprised because we did get a lot of rain.

All in all I guess it was an ok camping trip. Austin had a blast and it was great to see him have fun. A few things will change with the next year family vacation though. The food situation was a bit irritating at times but it worked out. Some family members were irritated with each other but that is over now. Hope next year turns out a little bit better!

Downtime

This is my downtime today...while I'm eating lunch! I have so much to do before we go camping on Thursday (hopefully). I have to clean my house from top to bottom, literally! I have cleaned the bathrooms already and the laundry is on the go. I still have to vaccum, sweep and wash the floors, wash the windows, clean the kitchen, and so on...

The reason I said hopefully after thursday is because we ran into a little mishap with the trailer situation yesterday. We took our trailer to Lonepine RV on Saturday morning so they could fix our fridge and have it ready for us to pick up on Monday night. The guy from Lonepine RV calls me around 1 pm to give me some not so good news... actually very bad news. He tells me that he fixed the wiring so the lights work properly now and he replaced the roof vent. Then he goes on about how we are pulling this trailer Illegally because the wiring is not set up on the van for trailer brakes and that will be about $400 to put in. Then he goes on and starts explaining how the propane lines are very dangerous and that they are not up to code, and he hasn't even touched the fridge because he refuses to open up the propane bottles. He tells me that this is approxiamelty $300-$500 to fix. So our $100 fridge fix turns into $1000 in a matter of minutes. Without going into much more detail we are getting the trailer fixed and HOPEFULLY it will be ready by Wednesday evening and HOPEFULLY we will still be leaving Thursday morning or there abouts.

After the laundry is finished I will start packing the suitcases and hopefully have most of it done by this afternoon. Whatever I don't pack by today I will be doing by tomorrow afternoon so it is all ready to go Wednesday night.

Tomorrow morning mom and I are going to get all the groceries for the camping trip. I don't know how it'll go with the kids being there and distracting us but I guess we'll find out. Austin is getting very excited about camping. He asks me almost everyday "Are we going camping today?" and I say no but in a couple of days. I have purchased a lot of things for the kids to do for the week like painting, badminton, a shovel and trucks, coloring, kids golfing, a water gun, etc. I hope he stays out of trouble with all the activities I have for him to do. We are camping right by the river/creek so he has to be occupied or guess where he'll go...

Anyways, back to my cleaning I go....

Started a blog...What a surprise

So Miranda started this blog about the family and I really enjoy opening it from time to time and seeing what I've missed or haven't heard about yet. I always thought that blogging was dumb until she started it. I thought okay I will start one evntually maybe but not anytime soon...And then my mom started one. So now here I go!! I want to keep everyone updated on our family and our kids growth and the funny things they do...cuz they are pretty funny sometimes!!

So here goes...

I had to go to the medical clinic this morning because my throat hurts again so I had mom come over and watch the kids for me so I didn't have to take them. I called her when I FINALLY got into a room and she tells me there was an incident... Dalyce got into one of my cupboards, pulled out my glass measuring cups and dropped one and it shattered into a million peices. I thought that this was kind of funny because Austin did the same thing at about the same age!!

Austin did something pretty funny yesterday. Grant went to the bathroom downstairs yesterday and to his surprise there was no toilet paper. So he asked Austin to go upstairs into our bathroom to get him so toilet paper, he says OK and he runs upstairs. He comes down a couple seconds later and says Daddy Daddy I got you some toilet paper and brings it to him...come on guess what he did?! He brought him one piece!!! Grant starts laughing and says no Austin I need the whole roll!! (I wasn't home in case anyone was wondering why Grant didn't just ask me)
